Allium karataviense Red Giant (actually an Asian species in the Amaryllis family) is new and much shorter than other Allium varieties. Red Giant blooms in late spring to early summer and it grows to only about 10" high but it has blooms a huge purple/red ball shaped head that is just so unique. It makes an ideal accent plant for front borders, feature beds and cutting gardens. Its bold color and unique scent lures hummingbirds, butterflies and bees to the 4½-5" flower clusters, but repels deer and other pesky critters.
