Radio Red Autumn Sage is an herbaceous evergreen perennial with an upright spreading habit of growth. This is a relatively low maintenance plant, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. It is a good choice for attracting bees, butterflies and hummingbirds to your yard, but is not particularly attractive to deer who tend to leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. Beautiful and bright scarlet red flowers emerge above the light green foliage on this spring to fall blooming perennial; a compact plant with mildly fragrant flowers and foliage for mixed containers and color borders.

Growth Habit

Radio Red Autumn Sage will grow to be about 14 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 16 inches.

Care

This plant does best in full sun to partial shade. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist growing conditions, but will not tolerate any standing water. It is considered to be drought-tolerant, and thus makes an ideal choice for a low-water gardens. It does, however, like rich soils with good drainage.

Red sage varieties known as Salvia splendens are known to be particularly toxic to dogs if ingested in large quantities. Deer resistant, heat and drought tolerant and easy to grow.
