Pennsylvania Carex or Carex pensylvanica is a delicate arching sedge, with narrow grass-like leaves growing in clumps and it reaches up to 8" at maturity. 

Care

Found growing in forested areas throughout the eastern U.S., Pennsylvania Sedge is usually seen in forests. It grows best in partial shade, but can tolerate full shade. It will tolerant occasionally wet soil, but a well drained site is imperative. Pennsylvania Sedge likes well composted, well drained soil. Best grown in zones 3-7. 

Growth Habit

Like so many sedges, Pennsylvania Sedge grows actively during spring and fall when soil temps are cooler. The flowers appear in spring, atop thin rigid stems that rise only slightly above the height of the emerging leaves. The creamy white flower spikes are somewhat showy, and stand out against the brown leaves of the woodland floor. This sedge has a creeping habit with long rhizomes it reaches about 8-12" tall x 12-18" wide at maturity.

Toxicity

Resistant to deer & rabbits. Not considered to be toxic to pets.

Orders are shipped on Wednesdays and Thursdays; if your order is placed on a Wednesday, it may not ship until the following Wednesday. During peak season there may be delays in shipping. If it is too hot or cold, we suggest ordering during milder months to ensure plants arrive in best condition.
