Bay (Leaf) Laurel Tree Form

$39.99

An outstanding, fragrant tree that can be used as part of your cooking spice collection. Use the Sweet Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis) tree as an ornamental tree as well. Such versatility in one plant! Bay trees are zoned for 8-11 so this should probably be used as a patio tree plant that can be taken in during the winter here in Chattanooga. It has separate male and female plants with only the female ones producing the berry-like drupes

Growing Habit

Green, white, or yellow flowers appear in the spring from March to May.

Care

Leaves are used to flavor foods while cooking, but the leaves should not be eaten for a variety of reasons including but not limited to choking and creating cuts inside the digestive tract or/ and mouth because the leaves are sharp. Best in full sun indoors during the winter. Likes a loamy mix of soil and is better not to keep the soil soaked.

Toxicity

Bay Laurel parts are toxic to dogs, especially younger leaves. Symptoms include vomiting and lethargy; seek vet care immediately.
