Jessica's Sweet Pear Mint is truly pear flavored! It's like Mother Nature decided to blend the refreshing goodness of mint with the sweet juiciness of pears. Mojitos with a hint of pear?
Mint is a hardy, fast-spreading perennial that thrives in partial shade and moist, rich, well-draining soil. To keep mint plentiful and healthy, it should be watered fairly regularly allowing for about an inch of soil to dry out between each watering. It should be planted in rich soil that drains well and fertilized organically in the spring before it gets too hot. Best grown in zones 5-9.
If you've not grown mint before, you'll learn that it can take over. If you are not interested in it taking over your garden, you may want to consider planting it in a pot that is at least 10" in diameter. This confines the roots and prevents them from spreading all over your bed.
Mint is generally considered non-toxic to humans and pets. However, as with all plants, it's advisable to monitor pets to prevent excessive consumption. The plant's aromatic properties also make it resistant to deer and rabbit browsing.
