Prarie Coneflowers are known for their tall, hat-like flower centers. Although Prairie Coneflowers are called by the common name Coneflowers, they are not within the Echinacea genus. Their roots do not offer the same medicinal value of the flowers within Echinacea. Prairie Blaze Orange Sunset Coneflower is orange colored blooming in brilliant, glowing orange shades. Plants provide many long-lasting flowers, attracting butterflies, bees and hummingbirds from July through October.
Highly adaptable; tolerates poor soil, heat, humidity, and even drought, once established. Hardy in zones 3-9.
Coneflowers have a long bloom period, and the large, dried seed heads are a great food source for finches and other birds in the late summer and fall. A great attractor of butterflies, hummingbirds and pollinator bees. Makes good cut flowers - grows 14-16" tall and 6-8" wide.
Nearly all species of Echinacea serve as potential host plants for the larvae of the Silvery Checkerspot butterfly and several moths including the Wavy-lined Emerald and the Sunflower Moth. Aside from a myriad of pollinating insects, the nectar-rich flowers of coneflowers are also very attractive to ruby-throated hummingbirds. Once flowers have faded, and seeds have ripened, songbirds such as American goldfinches forage the spent heads and eat the seed.
Echinacea is non-toxic, ensuring a safe environment for dogs and deer resistant.
