Don's Variegated Rhododendron austrinum is one of the first of the native azaleas to show color in the spring, usually starting to flower in late March and early April. It produces abundant trusses of large, fragrant, bright orange flowers borne before and while the leaves are emerging in spring with its bright green leaves with creamy marbled flecks. The bright flower clusters of this  variety that really steals the show. Tolerating heavy frost, drought, and hot and humid conditions, Don's Variegated is a perfect selection for gardens in the South.

Care

Don's Variegated Native Azalea is very easy to grow in moist but well-drained, humus rich soil and dappled shade or morning sun with afternoon shade. Once established it is quite drought tolerant, requiring supplemental water only during prolonged periods of dry summer weather. Native azaleas are very low-maintenance, requiring little if any pruning.

Growth Habit

Growing 6 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, Don's Variegated Native Azalea is a ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in partially shaded landscape borders, home foundation plants and woodland borders.

Toxicity

Azalea's are toxic To Dogs. Chewing into this plant will release these crystals causing tissue penetration & irritation to the mouth & oral cavity. Unfortunately not deer resistant.

For in store purchases: If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please call us at 423-870-5000 or return the plant in its original pot/condition within 3 days. Trees and shrubs have a 1 year warranty (exceptions may apply), but we highly encourage you to give us a call or email if you notice issues with your plant. We'd love to help you figure out what's wrong and save your plant! 

Orders are shipped on Wednesdays and Thursdays; if your order is placed on a Wednesday, it may not ship until the following Wednesday. During peak season there may be delays in shipping. If it is too hot or cold, we suggest ordering during milder months to ensure plants arrive in best condition.
