Illumination Sparks Mock Orange Shrub

$24.99

Illuminati Sparks is a fabulous mock orange with lustrous green foliage dotted with cheery, yellow variegation. Its fragrant, intoxicating flowers will emerge in early summer and are perfect as a cut-flower stem for foliage filler, as well as adding color and texture to the landscape. Illuminati Sparks is disease and deer resistant, drought tolerant, and attracts bees and butterflies.

Care

An easy-care plant, mock orange grows best in sunny to dappled sun locations with organically rich, moist soils, but it tolerates a wide range of soils, including alkaline soils, loam, and compacted clay, if they are well-draining. Philadelphus Pearls of Perfume is disease resistant. It does not require pruning, but any desired shaping should be done after flowering.

Growth Habit

Deciduous; grows best in zones 4-7. Strong branches with medium green foliage, abundant clusters of large, pure white, fully double flowers perfume the air with an intense citrusy orange-blossom scent, attracting bees and butterflies. The long-lasting, sterile, sweet-scented flowers are a great addition to floral arrangements. A Philadelphus hybrid, is a well-branched shrub with a compact, upright habit that grows to a size of 36-48 inches tall and wide at maturity.

Toxicity

Mock Orange plants are non-toxic to dogs, making this a safe perennial shrub to include in yards accessible to dogs or puppies. Most types of Mock Orange are safe, but this plant is not edible, and overeating may cause your canine to experience discomfort or an upset stomach. Relatively deer resistant.
