Description

Although more closely related to plums, the fruit of the Nanking Cherry (Prunus tomentosa) shrub are more comparable to cherries. It originates in Northwest China, the Himalayas, and Mongolia. Serving well as an ornamental shrub, Prunus tomentosa features white springtime flowers, followed buy their profuse, tart, red fruit. These ripen in early summer, and can be used for jams, pies, tarts, juice, and wine, as well as in traditional Chinese preparations of pickled vegetables and mushrooms. The flowers are attractive to pollinators.

Care
