$12.99

Czech Horseradish are perennial in our zone (3-8) and are exceptionally hardy. Easy to grow & rich in Vitamin C, horseradish is a low-maintenance addition to any garden. The flavor of Czech Horseradish will add just the right zip to your cocktail sauce or dips. This hardy variety of superior quality prefers rich soil and plenty of moisture.

Growth Habit

To obtain the best crop, delay harvesting horseradish until late October or early November. Carefully dig the horseradish and cut off the foliage, about 1 inch above the crown. Store horseradish in a refrigerator or root cellar at a temperature of 32-40 F, humidity 90-95%. Keep roots out of light.

Care

Plant sun-loving horseradish somewhere that will receive at least eight hours of direct sunlight per day. If you live somewhere that will likely be hotter than what this plant prefers, give it a little afternoon shade. While horseradish is drought tolerant, the roots can become woody and weak-flavored if they go for too long without water. The plant should be given one to two inches of water once a week. But take care not to give them too much water, because the roots will become soft and have a bitter flavor.

Toxicity

It's not toxic but lookout for signs of gastrointestinal discomforts, such as diarrhea, as well as allergic reactions. Deer appear to leave horseradish plants alone.
