block.Alocasia Hilo Beauty (Caladium praetermissum) is known for its stunning white speckled variegated leaves. These plants can grow quite large if planted outside, but if kept confined in a pot they will stay a manageable size and be perfect as an indoor plant. Alocasia Hilo Beauty are technically a Caladium but are often advertised as an Alocasia.
As with most types of Alocasia, keeping them happy can be a bit tricky, but its stunning foliage makes the challenge oh-so-worth-it. One of the most important aspects of caring for this plant is ensuring that it gets enough moisture. These tropical aroid's enjoy regular watering, high humidity, and will suffer in dry environments and prolonged periods of drought. It's important to note, however, that you should not keep the soil soggy or you risk root rot. Alocasia does best in indirect, hot sunlight that it is not exposed to prolonged periods of direct sun as that will burn its velvety leaves. Since Alocasia are aroid plants, they do best in an airy, rich, and moist but well-draining soil, we recommend using AMG Chunky Chat Aroid Soil. It's important to note that Alocasia very often get spider mites. Given that, it is especially import with this plant to inspect regularly inspect the plant for mites and increase humidity or use miticides to combat spider mites.
Under the right conditions, Alocasia have a moderate to fast growth rate. Lack of light and humidity can lead to slow or stunted growth. Drooping leaves on an Alocasia can mean a number of things – but a lack of water and/or humidity are the most common reasons.
Pet owners beware, Alocasia, like all plants in its genus, is considered toxic.
