A native, Raydon's Favorite Aromatic Aster or Symphyotrichum oblongifolius 'Raydon's Favorite' is an essential fall-blooming perennial with showy violet-blue flowers that attract butterflies. A highly rated garden performer that is widely adapted and grows in a variety of soil types.
Performs best in full sun and well drained soil. For best results, add some slow release fertilizer when planting. Although Aromatic Aster is drought tolerant, it's best to keep it watered consistently when the soil is dry about 1" down from the top. Fall Blooming - best grown in zones 3-8.
Grows to about 2' tall & 3' wide at maturity. It features woody stems with fragrant, blue-green leaves and produces violet-blue flowers from August to November. This native spreads aggressively by rhizomes, making it excellent for erosion control, drought-tolerant, and ideal for, sunny, dry-to-moist locations.
Non-toxic to pets and highly deer resistant.
