Care

Azaleas prefer planting sites with partial sun to partial shade. A spot with morning sun and afternoon shade is best. The Azalea Encore Autumn Lily likes slightly acidic soil that is well draining and rich with nutrients. Fertilize annually with a slow-release fertilizer in early spring for best results and to aid in flower production. Be sure to water the plants well during the first year of planting to establish a strong root system. A 2 to 3 inch layer of pine mulch is recommended to help retain moisture. Deadhead spent flower blossoms to encourage new growth. Prune after the first set of flowers finishes blooming to shape the shrub to the desired size. Pruning azaleas too late in the year will risk cutting off next year’s blooms.

Growth Habit

Encore Autumn Embers is best grown in zones 6-9. The mature size is up to 4-5 feet tall and wide and is perfect for small garden spaces.

Toxicity
