Bandwidth Maiden Fountain Grass

$39.99

Bandwidth' Maiden Grass is a cultivar of Miscanthus grass that delivers beautiful, striated color in a smaller size without troublesome invasive reseeding issues. Bands of light green stripe the slender leaves of this well-behaved perennial grass. The wispy foliage of the Bandwidth Maiden Grass creates a soft texture that provides a striking complement to a rock garden or anchors a garden bed. The green and yellow foliage is banded or has alternating rings of color, giving the leaves a colorful and unique look. This grass has an upright, clump-forming habit and can reach 25 to 30 inches tall and 18-20" wide, so plant it in an area that can support a tall plant or feature near the back of a bed. The foliage of this plant is deer- and rabbit-resistant, making this a wonderful option for areas with a lot of foraging animals.

Care

Thrives in well-draining soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. Regular watering is necessary during the growing season, but the plant can tolerate some drought once established. Adding a layer of mulch around the base of the grass helps retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth. Pruning the grass in late winter or early spring helps rejuvenate its appearance and encourages new growth.

Growth Habit

Typically reaches a height of 2 to 3 feet (60 to 90 cm) with a spread of 1.5 to 2 feet (45 to 60 cm). This grass is hardy in USDA zones 5 to 9, making it suitable for a wide range of climates. The plant features green leaves with creamy-white margins, providing a striking contrast to its surroundings. In late summer to fall, fluffy, bottlebrush-like plumes emerge, changing from cream to tan as they mature, adding elegance and movement to the landscape.

Toxicity

Non-toxic to humans, cats, and dogs, making it a safe choice for gardens and landscapes.
