Description

Asclepias syriaca, or Common Milkweed is native to Tennessee and is essential for the survival of monarch butterflies, serving as the primary host plant for their larvae. This variety of milkweed features clusters of fragrant, pinkish-purple flowers that bloom from late spring to midsummer. Not only does it attract monarchs, but it also invites a variety of pollinators with its nectar-rich flowers.
Care

Common Milkweed does best in full sun, well-drained soils. Requires moderate watering in the first year, but once established, it is drought-tolerant. Cut back in late fall to remove spent stems and control self-seeding. Best grown in zones 3 - 9. 

Growth Habit

Deciduous. Plants can grow 3 to 5 feet tall. Fragrant flowers in colors of green, pink, white, and purple or lavender will last from June through August.

Toxicity

The bark, flower, seed pods, leaves, roots, and stems are poisonous, which can be a problem for cats, dogs, and horses.Deer resistant.

Trees and shrubs have a 6 month warranty (exceptions may apply), but we highly encourage you to give us a call or email if you notice issues with your plant. We'd love to help you figure out what's wrong and save your plant!

Orders are shipped on Wednesdays and Thursdays; if your order is placed on a Wednesday, it may not ship until the following Wednesday. During peak season there may be delays in shipping. If it is too hot or cold, we suggest ordering during milder months to ensure plants arrive in best condition.
