A perfect cone-shaped dwarf conifer displaying dense blue needles. Excellent as a miniature Christmas tree in natural form, or as an artistically pruned topiary. Makes a formal statement in the garden. Grows 15-20 feet wide & 40 feet tall at maturity but is a very slow grower.
Fertilome Azalea/Evergreen Fertilizer with Systemic each spring to help ensure strong growth and help with spider mites. Fat Albert grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. It will tolerate some light shade but performs best in a spot with good air circulation; its dense foliage can trap moisture which can cause problems. Water Fat Albert when the top 2 inches of soil is dry. These plants do not like soggy soil, so beware of over watering. Grows best in zones 3-8.
For pets, The Spruce Pets states that spruce trees and their relatives are non-toxic to household pets. Although consuming large amounts needles from the tree can give your animal companion an upset stomach or cause oral irritation, they are not deadly; therefore, they are safe to bring to a household with pets. Oh and deer do not like to snack on them!
