Fire Chief Arborvitae

$39.99

This is an amazing little beauty. It's one that we love here in zone 7 and because of it's distinct style, we sell often. A nearly perfectly globe-shaped shrub with fine, bright gold spring foliage and fantastic deep red fall color. It can be overlooked as appearing that it's foliage may be sticky but it is very soft to the touch. Distinctive color shifts set Fire Chief apart among compact evergreens. Bright gold foliage brightens the tidy globe-shaped shrub in spring. Summer brings gentle hues of orange which deepen to red in fall.

Care

Thrives in deep, enriched, evenly moist, well-drained soil; dislikes dry conditions. Mulch around root zone and shelter from drying winds. Water deeply, regularly during first few growing seasons to establish an extensive root system. Fertilize before new growth begins in spring. No pruning needed to maintain compact, rounded form.

Growth Habit

A slow growing, low maintenance evergreen perfect for massing in a landscape foundation or as a rock garden specimen. Reaches 2 ft. tall and wide in 10 years; 4 ft. tall and wide at maturity.

Toxicity

Deer and rabbit resistant. Arborvitae is considered mildly toxic to animals and humans.
