With its soft white, fragrant blooms in the spring, you will love the Chinese Fringe Tree. Prized since it can be a large shrub or small tree with upright branches forming dome shape. Soft green leaves back magnificent clusters of fringe-like blooms. A terrific accent for the landscape.
At maturity, the fringe tree gets wider (20-30') than taller (15-20'). Fringe tree are deciduous and grow as either a wide-spreading, multi-stemmed shrub or a small tree. Useful in native woodland gardens, as a specimen plant, in groups, borders, or near large buildings. The fringe tree’s most outstanding feature is the fragrant, strap-like, white flowers that are borne in 6 to 8 inch long fleecy panicles in late May to early June.
Full to partial sunlight, this slow grower is easy to care for when planted in well drained, rich soil. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Watering may be reduced once established, but avoid prolonged drought. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring.
Fringe trees are not toxic to pets and is only moderately deer resistant.
