Hardy Kiwi Vine

$16.99

Issai (Actinidia arguta) otherwise known as Hardy Kiwi Vine  is the most unique kiwi in many ways: It's a self-fertile variety, so you only need one plant (normally kiwi require a male and female vine to generate fruit) and Issai has small sized, smooth skin fruit that's free of fuzz. Unlike other kiwi cultivars, the Issai stays small enough that it can grow in limited space or even in a container.

Care

Like many fruits, hardy kiwi needs full sun and constant moisture to thrive, though it does not tolerate wet soil. Plant it in a full sun location with rich, well-drained soil. Grows best in zones 5-8. Kiwi will tolerate any well-drained soil type. Plant may be pruned as needed in late fall or early winter, or leave it to grow as you wish.

Growth Habit

Less aggressive than other kiwi varieties, this variety reaches 4-10 feet at maturity but is easily trained and ideal for trellises or fences. Planted in full sun in colder areas and part shade in hotter areas the fragrant flowers will bloom in early summer and turn into sweet, smooth-skinned fruits in fall.

Toxicity

Kiwi is not toxic to dogs and can be a safe snack when given on occasion and in small amounts. But if your dog has a sensitive stomach or is prone to digestive issues, it may be best to avoid feeding them kiwi. Not deer resistant.
