Description

Helichrysum italicum is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is sometimes called the curry plant because of the strong fragrance of its leaves. Used in cooking  and traditional medicine for its healing properties, especially for skin issues like bruises and burns, but it's not related to the spice curry (from Murraya koenigii) and needs well-drained soil and sun, similar to lavender.  Known as Curry plant, Immortelle, or Italian Strawflower, this shines in rock, cottage, costal, and city gardens which mimic the Mediterranean setting of its origin. Prized as a dried flower, gardeners love to pick from the Curry plant because its blooms retain their bright mustard color. Although sharing the same name as the well-known mixture of spices, Curry plants have little else in common with curry powder.

It grows on dry, rocky or sandy ground around the Mediterranean. Grows best in zones 7-12.

Growth Habit

Evergreen. Curry Leaf plant has an upright and open growth habit. As an indoor plant in temperate 24-36". Small fruits have a subtly sweet and peppery taste with a hint of citrus.
