block.Karl Foerster feather reed grass Calamagrostis x acutiflora is one of the showiest, longest blooming ornamental grasses for your garden. The feathery flowers bloom in early summer and remain colorful until the hard frost in fall. This particular variety of feather reed grass is called the "perpetual motion grass." The slightest breeze sets this grass in motion. This grass was introduced to the nursery trade in 1950 by German nurseryman Karl Foerster. It has become a very popular reed grass. Seeds on this grass are sterile.
Thrives in well-draining soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. Regular watering is necessary during the growing season, but the plant can tolerate some drought once established. Adding a layer of mulch around the base of the grass helps retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth. Pruning the grass in late winter or early spring helps rejuvenate its appearance and encourages new growth. Best grown in zones 3-9.
Typically reaches a height of 60" with a spread of 24". The plant features green leaves with creamy-white margins, providing a striking contrast to its surroundings. In late summer to fall, fluffy, bottlebrush-like plumes emerge, changing from cream to tan as they mature, adding elegance and movement to the landscape.
Non-toxic to humans, cats, and dogs, making it a safe choice for gardens and landscapes.
