Description

Polygonum bistorta is a herbaceous perennial that is Native to Europe and Asia.  The plant makes a low mound that gives rise in the spring to many upright pink flowers.  Considered a classic medicinal herb for which the young leaves are edible and the root is a valuable astringent used in treating oral ulcerations. There is even a traditional spring tonic known as “Bistort pudding.” 

Care

Plant prefers part shade to sun and really enjoys moist, even soggy, soil. Perennial in zones 3-7.

Growth Habit

Erect rose-pink bottle brush spikes made of many tiny flowers bloom atop straight-up, leafless stems, one flower spike per stem, all growing out of a basal clump of leaves in June – July and sometimes later.

Toxicity

Considered mildly toxic to pets & also considered deer resistant.

Trees and shrubs have a 6 month warranty (exceptions may apply), but we highly encourage you to give us a call or email if you notice issues with your plant. We'd love to help you figure out what's wrong and save your plant! 

Shipping

Orders are shipped on Wednesdays and Thursdays; if your order is placed on a Wednesday, it may not ship until the following Wednesday. During peak season there may be delays in shipping. If it is too hot or cold, we suggest ordering during milder months to ensure plants arrive in best condition.
