Ping Pong Salvia

$14.99

Salvia microphylla 'Pink Pong' is a tall, sturdy salvia perfect for the middle or back of a border. Slightly beefier than other microphyllas (with larger leaves and flowers), 'Pink Pong' is a strong, bold presence in the garden. The tubular two-lipped brilliant pink flowers emerge from contrasting deep purplish-red to near black calyxes adorning equally dark spikes and are produced from spring to fall attracting hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. Pink Pong Salvia is a vigorous growing, exceptionally free flowering Autumn Sage hybrid with a strong upright to rounded habit eventually developing into a semi-woody shrub-like perennial. Its excellent flower power makes it a great choice for sunny, low maintenance container specimens or add it to the garden and landscape for spring to fall color. Provide Pink Pong Salvia with a full to mostly sunny site in a well-drained soil for optimum vigor and flowering.

Care

To ensure the thriving growth of salvia, plant it in well-draining soil and provide it with full sun to partial shade exposure. This plant enjoys regular watering, especially during hot and dry periods, but be cautious not to over water to avoid root rot. Applying a balanced fertilizer once or twice a month during the growing season can enhance blooming and overall health.

Growth Habit

At maturity, Ping Pong typically reaches 24-30 height & 18-24 width. This perennial is hardy in USDA Zones 8 to 11. Its upright, bushy growth habit and striking flowers make it an excellent choice for borders, mixed plantings, or as a focal point in the garden.

Toxicity

Salvia is not considered toxic to humans, according to available information. However, as with any plant, it's essential to avoid ingesting large quantities of the plant material. Additionally, while it's generally safe, it's best to keep pets away from the plant, as some pets may experience mild gastrointestinal upset if they consume it.
