Giant Hyssop (Agastache Royal Raspberry) is highly scented, it is an excellent attractant to hummingbirds and butterflies.  It is native to southern North America and can grow up to 100 cm tall. The buzz has already begun over this new collection of Agastache from Proven Winners® Perennials. Members of the MEANT TO BEE® Collection were selected for their large, full habits, significant landscape presence, and hardiness. Flowers cover the top two thirds of these plants from mid to late summer, with colorful calyxes extending interest well into fall. Pollinators are known to frequent these plants and they are a particular favorite of hummingbirds. 'Royal Raspberry' has rosy purple flowers with burgundy calyxes. New foliage emerges with a burgundy cast in spring. Best performance comes in full sun with well drained soils. Agastache is one of the most attractive plants for bees and supports a diversity of pollinators. Historically, mass plantings were established as a “honey plant” to support apiaries. While bees probe the deep tubular flowers for nectar, skippers, fritillaries, and the occasional hummingbird may also visit the plant. It is host plant to the Radcliff's Dagger Moth (Acronicta radcliffei), Summer Azure Butterfly (Celastrina neglecta), Orange Mint Moth (Pyrausta orphisalis), Tiger Moths, and Sphinx Moths.

Plant Agastache in full sunlight and well-draining soil. Regular watering is essential to maintain moist soil, but avoid water logging. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming. Pruning the plant in late fall helps promote fresh growth in spring. This variety is generally pest and disease resistant, making it easy to care. Best grown in zones 5-9. 

Royal Raspberry reaches a height and width of 28 - 32 inches and maintains a compact, clumping growth habit. Though it is in the mint family, it does not spread aggressively like culinary mint, though it may be prone to re-seeding throughout the garden. 

Agastache is not considered toxic to humans.  As it’s generally ignored by rabbits and deer, it may be used as a barrier to keep them away from more sensitive plants.
