block.Thunderbolt® is an award-winning new Box Honeysuckle featuring flashy chartreuse foliage with an improved, dense, midsize frame. Let it naturally cascade for focal interest or shape it to taste. Best in zones 5-9. Native to China.
3-4ft tall and 3-4ft wide at maturity. Upright then cascading, very easy to trim to desired shape and size. The Thunderbolt™ Box Honeysuckle has a wonderful fragrance enjoyed by everyone. Box Honeysuckles can be used for low formal hedges or as a sheared individual plant! You can let them grow naturally without pruning so it looks like a cascading ground cover.
Provide part shade for your cute box honeysuckle plant! They don’t like too much sun as it stresses them out–think of them as sunburnt prone. They do best with well drained soil with mulch. This does a few beneficial things: conserves the water, prevents root drowning, and protects the roots. Pruning is the gardener’s choice based on what they want. If you don’t prune, you will get a cascading look that appears as a ground cover. If you prune to shape, it is a neat, cute bush!
All parts of the honeysuckle, including the vine, flower, and berry, are poisonous to dogs, who can not properly digest the plant's toxic properties, consisting of cyanogenic glycosides and carotenoids. It is strongly deer resistant and has no serious disease issues.
Plant size and shape may differ from what is pictured.
