Also known as Cutleaf Coneflower or Rudbeckia laciniata is a cheerful wildflower native to Tennessee with lobed leaves that grows to be about 3-7 feet tall and makes a grand statement in the late season garden. Golden petals surround a green cone, creating a beautiful statement that also attracts winged wildlife. Butterflies are attracted to nectar from the blooms and songbirds, especially American Goldfinches, eat the seed in the fall. Native bees nest in the dead, hollow stems, so gardeners are encouraged to cut back dead stems to 12 to 24 inches and allow them to remain standing until they disintegrate on their own.

Care

The plant prefers moist soil but grows well in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade and is often found in woods, meadows, stream banks, and roadside ditches. The plant tolerates hot, humid summers, but can spread aggressively by underground rhizomes.

Growth Habit

Blooms in July through October and is considered a perennial in zones 3-9

Toxicity

Rudbeckia are deer resistant due to the hair on their leaves and they are not considered toxic to pets.

Orders are shipped on Wednesdays and Thursdays; if your order is placed on a Wednesday, it may not ship until the following Wednesday. During peak season there may be delays in shipping. If it is too hot or cold, we suggest ordering during milder months to ensure plants arrive in best condition.
